Optical surface inspector is a compact optical instrument that inspects optical window surfaces whether have optical thin-film coatings such as AR coatings or oil contaminants. For an optical window plate with only one side AR coated for an example, it is hard to tell with bare eyes which side has the thin-film coating and which side does not. The optical surface inspector instrument can measure the reflections from two surfaces of the window plate and identify which side of the window has thin-film coatings
